Ginger Witch

This may be a boozy day. Here’s another cocktail that seems to work well.

Add lemon (in our case meyer lemon) simple syrup to a tall glass. Add ice. Add 1/2 a measure of Strega and half a measure of Domaine de Canton. Add a full measure of Hendrick’s Gin. Fill the glass with soda water and add a splash of bitters – in this case I used Fee Brothers’ – Old Fashioned Aromatic Bitters. Blood orange or lemon bitters would work well too. Stir, add a slice of lemon to the rim of the glass and enjoy!

St Germaine Part Deux

Another St Germaine cocktail.  Made by a bartender at the BLT Restaurant at the Camelback Resort in Scottsdale, Arizona for our friend Angela S. after a discussion of their mutual love for Hendricks and St Germaine.  Unfortunately the bartenders exact name is forgotten but the Q is for him.

Fleur de Q
2 oz Hendricks Gin
1 1/2 oz St Germaine
lime wedge
cucumber spear

Mix together Hendricks, St Germaine and cucumber spear.  Squeeze lime wedge and toss together.  Pour into highball glass over ice. Garnish with mint.

Sence Nectar

Sence Nectar is a new addition to our cocktails courtesy of our friend Angela.  It is non-alcoholic and can be drunk as a tea, but we prefer to liven it up with some spirits.  Made from the Kazanlak rose of Bulgaria, there are two versions: Sence Traditional and Sence Silver, which is made with a third less sugar.  I haven’t tried the Traditional yet, but if you do not care for overly sweet cocktails the Sence Silver is great.  It also contains high levels of Vitamin C in case you are drinking for your health.

Here follows a cocktail Angela made for us from the BLT Restaurant at the Camelback Resort in Scottsdale, Arizona.

Violet French 75
1 oz Hendricks Gin
3/4 oz Creme de Violet
1/2 oz Sence Nectar
Brut Sparkling Wine

Over ice mix Hendricks, Creme de Violet, Sence Nectar, squeeze of lemon. Strain into coupe champagne glass.  Top with sparkling wine. Admire the beautiful silver color and drink.

Inspired by this new delight we tossed together this combination.  Truth be told this isn’t much of a recipe, but these are the best strawberries I’ve ever tasted, my Platonic idea of what a strawberry should be.  Be sure to use organic strawberries. Conventional strawberries use a lot of pesticides.

Best Ever Strawberries
Sliced Strawberries
Organic Sugar
Splash Kirsch
Splash Esence Rose Nectar

Put strawberries in bowl.  Sprinkle with sugar (more or less depending on how sweet you like it).  Splash with Kirch and Esence Rose Nectar.  Add to anything or eat a la carte.

If you happen to have some strawberries left in the bowl you really should try the following.  Using Best Ever Strawberries add extra pizzazz, but it is worth making even if you skip that step.

Flower Punch
2 oz Hendricks Gin
1 oz St Germaine
1 oz Esence Rose Nectar
4 oz Best Ever Strawberries
Italian lemon soda

Over ice mix Hendricks, St Germiane, and Esence.  Muddle with strawberry and mint.  Strain into coupe champagne glass.  Top with lemon soda.  Garnish with fresh mint and strawberry.
